FAQ
Do I have to come to your office, or do you offer telehealth?
I do therapy exclusively through telehealth. That means you can see me within the comfort of your own home.
What hours do you work as a therapist?
I am available from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. I use the noon hour for self-care.
What is the first session of therapy with you like?
In the first session, I will get to know you and tell you about myself. Then, we explore why you are deciding to see a therapist. We then collaboratively develop goals you want to achieve when working with me.
How long will I be in therapy?
Clients determine for themselves how long they will be in therapy.
It is my goal to work myself out of a job. When you have achieved the results that you want, you are free to stop therapy at any time.
How much training do you have as a therapist?
I have a master’s degree in social work that required two years of graduate school. In addition, I am a licensed clinician, which means I received supervision by an experienced therapist for two years after graduating with my master’s.
I constantly strive to improve my skill set and knowledge base by attending additional training sessions and reading books.
How would you describe your therapy style?
I consider myself an eclectic therapist. I combine the client’s unique strengths and abilities with several therapy modalities. These therapy models include Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, the Gottman Method, Emotion-Focused therapy, narrative therapy, and several others. I use whatever style is best for the client and their unique situation.
What age groups do you see as a therapist?
I see clients 17 years and older.
Are there any types of clients you do not feel comfortable working with?
I subscribe to the philosophy that emphasizes first to not harm.
I usually do not work with clients who come to therapy with their presenting issue of having an eating disorder. At this time in my career, I do not have enough training to feel I can be effective with this population.
What drove you to be a therapist?
I have had my share of trauma that I have worked through with a good therapist. My personality and experiences led me to want to help alleviate the sufferings of others and help them reach their unique potential.
I consider being a therapist so much more than a job. It is a calling for me.
What do you like most about being a therapist?
I love helping people grow past their current situation and empowering them to reach their desired future.
Are you comfortable with the client crying during the session?
My clients may cry tears of sorrow, grief, comfort, and celebration upon achieving their goals. I believe tears are healthy expressions of human emotions.
What do you do for fun?
For fun, I enjoy spending time with my wife and friends, watching comedies in movies, and going to comedy shows.
My first occupation was as a band director, and I still have a passion for music. My favorite jazz musician is John Coltrane.
