Therapy for Trauma

The past does not define you.

I want to tell you that you are not defined by what you have been through. I say this because I am keenly aware of how trauma can affect a person’s life.

You had this traumatic event happen to you, and haven’t been the same since. Thoughts of that event make you stay constantly alert, waiting for something to happen again.

Something may occur, and it is as if we are reliving that traumatic experience again.

Now you struggle with bad relationships with your friends, your family, and even yourself. You are your own worst critic when you are already going through a rough time.

Holding it together is not easy.

The wounds of your past haunt you and rob you of your peace, leaving you feeling confused, damaged, and unworthy.

I am talking about the feelings of shame and worthlessness that can paralyze a person after they have been wounded or hurt. Whether it was childhood abuse, racial trauma, or some other negative life experience, those events may cause you to struggle with maladaptive coping skills that you know are not healthy for you.

As a result of those past experiences, you now spend a lot of time searching for relief from the pain and the hurt. Every day, people smile at you and ask you how you are doing. You say you are fine and smile on the outside, while you cry tears on the inside.

African Americans struggle with trauma just like every other population. In addition, we are more likely to struggle with trauma from generational trauma, poverty, abuse, and racism.

Put trauma where it belongs – in the past.

I consider myself a navigator who can help you navigate from the trauma of the past that is currently affecting you to learn how to love the part of you that is hurting or wounded.

Although the trauma has written a chapter of your story, together, we will help you take control of the pen so that you can shape the rest of your narrative.

Therapy with me will consist of you having a healing space where you can feel comfortable processing what happened to you while also discovering your own inner strength. Although something traumatic happened to you, it does not have to define you.

My goal is to help you move from generational trauma to experience a life where you have the tools to cope with your emotional issues, feel empowered to achieve the life that you desire, and can leave a legacy of generational wealth to your family and friends, as good mental health equals wealth.

You may have had a traumatic chapter, but I want to help you regain your pen so that you can write the next chapter of your story. Please get in touch with me today to learn more about how I can assist you.
